Spring-winter
Spring is for the most part actually known as vårvinter - “spring-winter”. While a warm breeze and the sun comes out, there’s still snow on the ground, which makes unique activities and experiences possible.
A selection of our spring-winter activities are listed below. If any of these experiences or excursions pique your interest, please let our team know in advance of your stay.
Cross country skiing
From your front step to the forest or out on the Torne river, we cross country ski with our local guide. No matter if you have never stood on skis before, or if you’ve done it multiple times - this is a fun activity!

Day Excursion to the Tower
On skies or with snow shoes, we walk 2 km together with our local guide the Tower, where we eat a hot meal over the open fire. Maybe we even climb up to the top of the Tower, gazing out over the beautiful winter forest.

Snow Shoe Walk
A fun activity to explore nature, while walking with the help of snowshoes. Our local guide will show you how to do it and follow alongside you.

Dogsledding
The most fun you’ve ever had will be to traverse ice and snow by trained dogs. There is something magical about the absolute silence that comes when the dogs set off into the calm forest. Sled dogs are friendly and social animals used to communicating with strangers.
Arthotel provides transport to and from the activity, as well as a food and coffee following the sled tour.

Ice fishing
Ice fishing can be the most peaceful form of fishing: just you, a rod and a hole in the ice. It can also be the most social form of fishing: a moment for conversation. It is, regardless, a lovely experience and if you catch something we’ll cook it outdoors on an open fire.

Reindeers
This is an activity we encourage as it will get you close to ways of life in the north and teach you a great deal. We will go meet the reindeers and their herders and learn more about reindeer herding and its tradition in Tornedalen.

Outdoor Cooking
We make you a three-course dinner over the open fire, out in the forest next to our Tower. You get to go by sled, pulled by a snow mobile, out to the forest where you are greeted by your local host for the night.
This activity can be combined with snow shoe walk or skies.
